Mission Nicaragua is an outreach to the at-risk children of children. These centers, operated by the Great Commission Fellowship, Pastors Mike & Elaine Mille', feed some 8,000 plus children in the greater Managua area hot meals 2 and 3 times per week.
Option A - The team will travel to Feeding Centers in various areas outside Managua. They will also attend the worship services of the local churches supporting the respective Feeding Centers. When possible, the team with travel to the mountain town of El Crucero, some 2,600 feet above Managua. The team will spend the night at the mission compound of New Hope minsitries. While there they will visit with the school children at New Hope's school as well as traveling to mountain villages distributing food to at risk families. Schedule permitting, teams will attend worship services in and around the mountain communities.
Option B (Optional for a limited number of team members on some trips) - From here on, the trip is not for the faint of heart! From Managua, A small squad from the team will fly a spacious La Costena Airlines 12 seat-er, single prop aircraft north to the Honduras border. After chasing all the cows off of the dirt runway, we'll land in at Waspam airport. We'll make our temporary home with the great and friendly folks at the Hotelito Piloto. While in Waspam we will work with our friends at the New Hope Children's Home. We will also travel by boat, several hours up or down the CoCo River, separating Nicaragua and Honduras. We will visit various Miskito Indian villages along the river, assisting with supplies for at risk children. We work closely with La Familia, the Family and Children's services of the City Government of Waspam. Often we will assist them in bringing at risk children back river to stay short and long term in the New Hope Children's Home. Cold water only at the hotel, and intermittent power are the daily routine while in Waspam, so be sure and bring your cross!
